Shut Up, Sit Down

Radical feminism with a serving of lefty politics and a side dish of proud mamahood.

  • Welcome!

I am Anji, radical feminist and mama extraordinaire. I just moved here from Blogger so I'm still settling in. Pull up a cushion and come talk feminism with me.

Oh, how exciting…

Posted by Anji on Friday 16th May 2008

This post has been edited because it was unnecessary, hurtful and unfair to the blogger in question. I was called an arsehole and a troll and reacted emotionally to that.

Read what you will into its deletion; radical feminists may feel I am giving in, pro-porn feminists may feel I am refusing to own my words. I’m not too worried what people think of me. However I feel that the post was unacceptable and it did not make me feel good to have written it, to have it here on the blog.

So now it’s gone. Bash away.

Caroline from ‘Un-Cool’ if I’m not mistaken. Newest member of the “UK feminist bloggers google group”.

How’s that gonna work then, I mean if just anybody can stroll in and say “I am a feminist”, when they very clearly are not? I left the minute she arrived.

  2. Anji Says:

She left because I was there, you left because she was there, on and on it goes. Clearly we’ve regressed back to primary-school. I’m so fed up of all this.

  3. tom paine Says:

It always surprises me how big a deal you and your friends are making over something that is so insignificant to most people. The need to moderate comments also shows a lack of guts and even maturity about differing POVs. Sad really.

  4. Laurelin Says:

God, it’s childish isn’t it? ‘Try not to quote Dworkin’- why? because what she says makes you uncomfortable? because the fact that she has mobilised and spoken to so many women is frightening?

And she wants a Radfem on why the sex industry causes violence? Just read our damn blogs, it’s all over there!

Oh and Tom Paine, thank you so much for coming here and sharing your wisdom! We women were waiting for a knight in chivalric and tainted armour to come and tell us why we’re wrong and mean and nasty censors! We should let jerks like you comment all over our blogs, invade safe-spaces, and tell us all why we’re so wrong and why you, oh knowledgeable patriarch, are so right. Seriously, don’t you have anything better to do? Like reading up on Feminism 101: The Bleeding Obvious on why comments like yours are inappropriate, unneccessary and arrogant?

Then why are you commenting here? Tom Paine-in-the-ass…
Yikes, these blog wars. Well I don’t often bother commenting or even reading those sex-poz blogs because they rarely, if ever, promote healthy or stimulating discussion about these things.
Maybe it’s best not to give people like this too much attention on your blog. You and your blog deserve better than that ;)

  6. tom paine Says:

Well, I’m glad to know I’m a pain in your ass and that you had the guts, after all, to publish a negative comment. What IS the world coming to, LOL!

I commented here because Uncool sent me here.

Don’t try and shift the blame onto Caroline. She’s not the cause of your dickish behaviour; you are. You were not under orders, and you are responsible for your own words. Instead of sprinkling your empty speeches with LOLs and cheap swipes, try and actually think about why your actions might be inappropriate, why a male should not be weighing in on intra-feminist disputes, and why it is wrong and privileged of you to assume you have the right to have your insults published in a feminist space. Just try. You’re obviously not an idiot, so you have no excuse.

  8. Laurelin Says:

crap, the bottom part shouldn’t be in italics. I’m not really one with the Information Age…

  9. Maggie Hays Says:

“I appear to have been linked to and quoted by a pro-porny ‘feminist’ who among other things also trashes the wonderful Rebecca Mott, Maggie Hays and Debs, who happen to be women I respect, admire and care for deeply.”

I know I’m a bit late to say this, Anji, but I’m back now after being busy for a little while:

Thanks a lot for defending us, really. And Thank You for your kind words. :)

Caroline from ‘Un-Cool’, huh? Oh, I completely ignore her fucking blog! Just like I ignore all the stupid pro-porny “sex-poz” blogs now…

These people are so unworthy of our attention in the end…
